Western Massachusetts as the New Hub for Biotechnology Manufacturing and Health Technology Research and Development
Last month, our long-time client Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) had its ribbon cutting ceremony for their newest initiative on campus: the PracticePoint Facility.
Located on the Worcester Campus at Gateway Park on the 3rd floor, this innovative space is the region's first health technology research and medical device development facility. PracticePoint is a membership-based development and testing site for use by students, industry leaders, and partners. As stated by WPI, the goal of the space was "to advance healthcare technologies and launch better medical cyber-physical systems through collaboration."
Construction began in April of 2017 and the PracticePoint facility officially opened on January 14, 2020. Our WPI team leaders were hard at work coordinating the MRI suite, robotics labs, machining/manufacturing labs, and all equipment and materials for this newly designed space.
Above and below are a few photos of the space's unique point-of-practice clinical care scenarios including:
- fully instrumented living space
- state-of-the-art motion capture lab
- two-bed modular patient care suite
- MRI imaging
- fully functioning operating room co-located with advanced manufacturing capabilities
We hope WPI and the community enjoy this innovative research space to put Massachusetts on the map as a leader in biotechnology manufacturing and health technology.
