Across the Charles River, KVA is engaged in some exciting work with MIT. We recently completed the newest addition of a public space intended for use by the residents of the City of Cambridge.
The Job Connector by MIT is truly a community space focused on helping Cambridge residents, whether it be residents talking to experts about building their resumes or attending skill-based classes to boost their talents. MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCo) is behind the venture, creating this space that benefits the surrounding community.
KVA's Involvement
The scope of work required a complete gut of this 3,000 square foot, 4-story brick building in downtown Cambridge. The space was fit with new framing at the floors, extensive floor finishes, and concrete floor slabs, with all new electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Exterior work included improvements to the building's facade - matching brick to the existing masonry, repairs to the roof and framing, and the addition of a new entrance ramp at the rear of the building.
KVA Project Manager Steve Smith, who oversaw the coordination of the architect and general contractor while also coordinating and ensuring on-time furniture deliver, saw the space first-hand truly transform into a place residents will be excited to visit.
"The space was in incredibly rough shape when we inherited it," Steve Smith, KVA Project Manager, described the original interior. "It was a gut job, and everyone has a hard time believing this space looks like it does now compared to where it was when we started."
MITIMCo recently won the 2019 NAIOP Distinguished Real Estate Award for their continued commitment to the development of Cambridge. We are thrilled to have a client like MITIMCo who is dedicated to the impact their buildings have on the community.
The Job Connector by MIT opened on October 1, 2019. The project was a collaborative effort; designed by architects Touloukian Touloukian with Siena Construction as the contractor.
